Fair Go For
Infrastructure Trades.

CIVIL APPRENTICESHIPS DO NOT RECEIVE FULL AUSTRALIAN APPRENTICESHIPS INCENTIVES SYSTEM (AAIS) FEDERAL FUNDING.

Farriers, Locksmiths, Electricians, Plumbers, Painters, Carpenters, Bricklayers, Mechanical Services, Plasterers, Tilers... the list is long and they all receive full AAIS funding... BUT Civil Apprentices DO NOT.

FAIR GO FOR CIVIL TRADES. FAIR GO FOR INFRASTRUCTURE.

Fair go for Australia's:

  • Road Builders & Maintainers,

  • Pipe Layers,

  • Earthmovers,

  • Plant Operators,

  • Traffic Managers,

  • Bridge Builders & Maintainers,

  • Bituminous Surfaces,

  • Road Markers,

  • Civil Construction Professionals,

  • Tunnel Constructors.

The core industry responsible for building and maintaining all of Australia’s infrastructure needs is not fully supported with apprenticeship recognition and support. Specifically, that Federal AAIS funding program does not include the following incentives for civil apprentices and their employers:

  • Priority Wage Subsidy up to $ 15,000* (paid to employer / host)

  • Apprentice Training Support Payments $5,000*  (paid to apprentice)

  • Apprentice Trade Support Loans up to $22,890* (paid to apprentice)

The civil industry:

  • offers genuine future focused careers.

  • offers low barrier to entry, pathways, and trade professions to all Australians.

  • is supported by two trade apprenticeships in South Australia.

  • has trade apprenticeships with more female Cert III trade apprentice commencements than any other traditional construction trade.

  • has civil trade apprenticeships where, in South Australia, 30% of Cert III Civil Construction commencing apprentices identify as aboriginal.

Nationally, those commencing a Certificate III Civil Construction trade apprenticeship identify as female (average percentage):

  • 5.3% of Civil Construction (including Plant Operations).

Where other Certificate III trade commencements lag behind:

  • 4.6% of Electrotechnology Electricians.

  • 1.4% of Carpentry (including Joinery).

  • 0.6% of Plumbing.

SUPPORT THE TRADE PATHWAY WHICH EMPLOYS DIVERSITY ACROSS AUSTRALIA. A CERTIFICATE III TRADE WITH HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF WOMEN COMMENCING IN COMPARISON TO OTHER TRADITIONAL TRADES.

*note these are total, maximum figures per apprenticeship

Civil Industry Leader

"A ready, capable and skilled workforce is critical. If the Government isn’t maintaining its commitment and making positive change to address current workforce shortfalls, our industry will suffer. We can only develop our capacity as an industry where a robust pipeline of apprentices exists."
